Arkansas Food Stamp Office Locations

The Arkansas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp program provides food assistance to eligible individuals and households to help cover a portion of the household’s monthly food budget. Food assistance is distributed through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card on a monthly basis.

SNAP benefits can be used to purchase eligible food items from approved stores for home consumption including seeds and plants which produce food for consumption. Farmers markets are also an approved location where food assistance benefits can be redeemed. In addition to food assistance, the program provides SNAP recipients with nutrition education, employment and training, and work experience. The Arkansas Food Stamp program is administered by the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

If you’re currently not a recipient of Food Stamps and decide to apply, you will be invited to complete an in-person interview at your local Department of Human Services office location. Can You Use Food Stamps on Amazon?

You can now use food stamps on Amazon and that’s great news for all SNAP benefit holders who have been wanting to use their EBT Cards online to buy food at FreshDirect and other grocers that deliver food.

"Use Food Stamps on Amazon"

Starting in the summer of 2017, seven online food retailers, will start accepting food stamps and allow EBT Card holders to buy food online. Here is the list of the retailers approved for the program:
Hart’s Local Grocers
Dash’s Market.

This is a two year pilot program that the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), which administers the Food Stamps program is testing. NOTE that only seven states have been approved to run the program. The Seven states are:

New Jersey
New York

If you are on food stamps but don’t live in the seven states mentioned above, you will not have to wait too long to be able to benefit from the program. The USDA says it hopes to expand the online program nationally and add more retailers.

The ability to use food stamps on amazon and fresh direct in itself is a major breakthrough for millions of people who are on food stamps but don’t have access to quality, nutritious and affordable food. The fact that major retailers like Amazon are participating in SNAP’s online ordering program is a big deal. The ability to buy food online using food stamps could especially help those who live in food deserts (i.e. neighborhoods without access to fresh produce), those with disabilities, and the elderly. It will also expand options for people to get access to a variety of food options that may not necessarily be available to them in their local area due to limitations that they may have – either due to employment or distance.

Use EBT Online at Fresh Direct

With the rise of online shopping, many families are now opting to get their groceries online then going to the store. Starting this summer, more families will be able to take advantage of this growing market. Fresh Direct and other online grocers will not accept food stamps in a pilot program done in partnership with the USDA that starts this summer.

Use EBT Online at Fresh Direct

SNAP receipents will now be able to use EBT online at Fresh Direct to purchase eligible food items. If you aren’t already familiar with Fresh Direct, they are an online grocer that specializes in fresh, high quality food and meals, as well as supermarket brand favorites.

The Fresh Direct pilot program launches this summer in the following states: Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, Iowa and Oregon. More retailers and states are expected to be added to the online EBT program after the pilot.

Other companies that are also piloting the use of food stamps online include Amazon, Safeway, ShopRite, Dash’s Market and Hart’s Local Grocers.

Shop with Food Stamps Online

Many major online retailers are now accepting Food Stamps as a form of payment. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients are now able to shop with food stamps online at food retailers such as Amazon, FreshDirect, Safeway, ShopRite, Hy-Vee, Hart’s Local Grocers and Dash’s Market. The goal of the online SNAP system is to bring the benefits of the online market to low-income Americans participating in food assistance program.

Starting this summer, the pilot program will take place in the following states:

  • Maryland
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Washington
  • Iowa
  • Oregon

If the pilot program goes well, the USDA will add more retailers and make using food stamps online a national option. The online food stamps program could be extremely beneficial to those elderly or disable participating in SNAP.

Donald Trump on Welfare Reform

Many people want to know if Donald Trump wins the election, will he get rid of food stamps? Well, he won. So, what is he going to do? Will he make cuts to social security or worse privatize it? Will he cut welfare programs? How about Medicaid, Medicare, WIC, TANF, Energy Assistance? What can we discern from Donald Trump on Welfare Reform? Here are a few answers:

Donald Trump on Welfare Reform

Now that he is going to be the President of the United States, here is what we know: We are going to go through the most popular and expensive programs (Social Security and Food Stamps) and tell you what we know so far:

Food Stamps

There is a famous video of Donald Trump confronting a food stamps heckler. Watch it here. Even though that video has gained notoriety, it does not tell you what he plans to do about it. It only shows you that Donald Trump thinks too many people are on food stamps. What we know is that House Speaker Paul Ryan has been wanting to trim the program for a long time, and now that they don’t have a Democratic President in the way, they have a chance to do that. For example, they want to tighten eligibility standards or increase the work requirement, according to this article from CBS News.

Social Security

Trump has not presented a specific plan on social security, only saying that he will not take benefits from those who are currently receiving it. That opens the possibility that there would be changes to those who will get it in the future. And by the look of his transition team, it looks like privatizing social security may also be on the table since there are people on his transition team that are champions of privatizing social security.

Here is Trump answering a question from someone from the AARP on Social Security in December 2015.

What are your thoughts? Do you believe him?

Here is Trump during the Third Presidential Debate answering a question on Social Security

What do you think of his answer?

What do you think of Donald Trump on Welfare Reform? Do you think he is going to make deep cuts, eliminate programs or leave them alone. Tell us in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you on this important topic.

Donald Trump Food Stamps Video

Donald Trump has had a lot to say about government program, especially his desire to cut these programs because he thinks they are bloated. But there is a famous video that everyone is talking about where Donald Trump famously confronts a food stamps heckler. It was November, 18, 2015, at a rally in Worcester, Massachusetts. Donald Trump was commenting about how 50 million Americans live in poverty and that close to 50 million are on food stamps. That’s when a heckler interrupted Trump in what has become the “Donald Trump Food Stamps Video”. Here is what Trump had to say about that:

“I mention food stamps and that guy who is seriously overweight went crazy.”

The heckler was eventually thrown out of a Donald Trump rally. The video gained notoriety for two reasons: First, the number of people Trump claimed are on food stamps. Most people were surprised to hear that 47 million people are on food stamps but as of 2013, that number is correct and in 2016, that number stands at 43 million. If that sounds like a lot, there is a reason why. During the 2008 recession, a lot of people because long term unemployed and went on food stamps. Even though the economy has recovered, wages are still depressed, so even people with jobs find themselves needing help to buy food. That’s why the number is still so high.

The other reason the video is so popular is just Trump’s response. It’s classic Trump, confronting anyone that gets in his way, which of course pleases some of his followers. See the entire video below and tell us what you think in the comments section below.
