The Arkansas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp program provides food assistance to eligible individuals and households to help cover a portion of the household’s monthly food budget. Food assistance is distributed through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card on a monthly basis.
SNAP benefits can be used to purchase eligible food items from approved stores for home consumption including seeds and plants which produce food for consumption. Farmers markets are also an approved location where food assistance benefits can be redeemed. In addition to food assistance, the program provides SNAP recipients with nutrition education, employment and training, and work experience. The Arkansas Food Stamp program is administered by the Arkansas Department of Human Services.
If you’re currently not a recipient of Food Stamps and decide to apply, you will be invited to complete an in-person interview at your local Department of Human Services office location.
