How to Use SNAP EBT Online at Amazon

If you are an EBT cardholder and are wondering how to use your EBT Card on Amazon, we are here to help. SNAP EBT recipients can now use their food stamp benefits to purchase eligible groceries online at Amazon.

In this post, we are going to provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to pay with SNAP EBT online at Amazon. Keep reading to find out how to use your EBT Card to purchase groceries on Amazon.

Currently, EBT cardholders in select states can use their food stamps to purchase groceries on Amazon for delivery. If you have an EBT in any of the following states, you can use your EBT Card online at Amazon:

If your state is not listed above, you currently cannot use your SNAP EBT benefits on Amazon.

However, the USDA is expected to add additional states to the EBT Online Purchasing Pilot in the coming months. These states include Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wyoming.

If you have an EBT Card in any of the states listed above, you will be able to use your SNAP EBT benefits online at Amazon within the next few weeks. Please check back at the Use EBT Online page on our website for the latest details.

How to Pay with SNAP EBT Online at Amazon

If you are a current eligible SNAP EBT recipient and would like to know how to use your benefits to shop for groceries on Amazon, please follow the instructions below.

If you live in an Amazon-approved EBT state, but are not receiving food stamp benefits and would like to apply, find out how to apply for food stamp benefits in your state here.

Once you are approved for SNAP benefits, you will be able to use your EBT Card online to shop at Amazon.

Sign In or Create an Amazon Account

The first step you need to take when using your SNAP EBT online at Amazon, is to sign into your Amazon account. You can sign in your Amazon account here.

If you do not have an Amazon account, you will need to create one before you can use your EBT card online. Follow the instructions provided to Create an Amazon account here.

Add your SNAP EBT Card 

Once you are signed into your Amazon account, you can then add your eligible SNAP EBT card to your profile. You can do that by adding your EBT Card Number here. When finished, click the “Add your SNAP EBT Card” button.

Shop Amazon Grocery, AmazonFresh, and Prime Pantry with SNAP EBT

Once you have successfully added your SNAP EBT Card, you can now use your food stamp benefits to purchase eligible items from Amazon Grocery, AmazonFresh and Prime Pantry.

Use your SNAP EBT Online on Amazon Grocery

SNAP EBT Cardholders can add their EBT Card to their account to purchase eligible food items from Amazon Grocery for delivery. All eligible food items must be sold and shipped by Amazon. 

Amazon is also offering SNAP EBT with multi-pack sizes for additional savings and free shipping on orders over $25.

Use your SNAP EBT Online on AmazonFresh

SNAP EBT Cardholders can add their EBT Card to their account to get FREE access to AmazonFresh. SNAP EBT Cardholders can purchase items online labeled with the AmazonFresh logo for home delivery.

AmazonFresh gives SNAP EBT participants access to fresh produce, meat, dairy and shelf-stable groceries. Participants will also receive free shipping on orders over $35 ($50 in select regions). 

The AmazonFresh program is only available in select regions. To see if your region qualifies and start shopping online with your SNAP EBT Card visit Amazon Fresh.

Use your SNAP EBT Online on Prime Pantry

SNAP EBT Cardholders can add their EBT Card to their account to get FREE access to Prime Pantry. SNAP EBT Cardholders can purchase items online labeled with the Prime Pantry logo for home delivery.

Prime Pantry gives SNAP EBT participants access to everyday food essentials and household items in a single unit size. Participants will also receive free shipping on orders $25 or more.

Checkout with your EBT PIN

When you are ready to checkout with your SNAP EBT Card, you will select your EBT card from your payment list. You are required to enter your 4-digit PIN when using your SNAP EBT Card online.

A screen will appear that looks similar to the one below:

Proceed by entering your EBT Card PIN and clicking the “Submit” button. Once confirmed, you can check out as normal.

Yes, you can buy non-SNAP items on Amazon with other forms of payment. Simply add an additional payment method, such as a gift card, credit card or debit card, at checkout.

Why do similar Amazon Grocery items have different SNAP eligibility?

According to USDA guidelines, Amazon Grocery food items must be sold by Amazon to be eligible for purchase with SNAP EBT benefits.

Can I use SNAP EBT benefits to pay for Amazon shipping or delivery?

No, you cannot use your SNAP EBT benefits to pay for Amazon shipping or delivery per USDA guidelines.
