In today’s post, we will explain the step-by-step process on how to apply for food stamps in Delaware online. Food stamps are apart of the Food Supplement Program that enables low-income families to buy a variety of food that promotes better nutrition and health. Food stamp benefits are administered electronically to a Delaware Food First card, also known as an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, each month.

How to Apply for Food Stamps in Delaware Online:
Step 1 – Do you Qualify for the Delaware ASSIST?
Before going through the application process, it is important to determine whether or not you qualify to receive food stamp benefits. ASSIST provides a pre-screening program that will determine if you (the user) are potentially eligible to receive these benefits. To see if you qualify, access the Delaware ASSIST Screening Tool.
Step 2 – Apply for Delaware ASSIST
If the Delaware ASSIST Screening tool found you as eligible to receive benefits, the next step in the process to complete an application for the program. To complete an online application, visit the Delaware ASSIST webpage. After clicking the “Apply Now” button, you will be asked to create an account for your application. Once you’ve done so, you can go ahead and complete the application for submission.
Once your application has received, you will be invited to complete an interview at your local Department of Human Resources office. When setting up the interview, you will be given a number of requested documents. Make sure to bring all these documents to your interview for verification purposes. At this interview, you will review your application including information regarding the financial situation of your household.
Step 4 – Delaware Food First EBT Card
Congratulations! If you’ve made it to this step, that means you’ve been approved for the Delaware ASSIST Food Supplement Program. You will be issued your Delaware Food First EBT card. This is a debit-like card administered to all approved applicants. You will use your EBT card in-store for redeeming benefits on approved food items.
